Duke University Museum of Art Docents
The Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University fosters the understanding and appreciation of the visual arts by providing direct experiences with original works of art supported by a range of exhibitions, programs and publications for the university and the broader community. The museum draws on the intellectual resources of a great research university and serves as a laboratory of the arts dedicated to multidisciplinary approaches to learning. These strategies make the Nasher at Duke a unique cornerstone of the arts for Duke University, Durham and the Triangle community, the State of North Carolina and the greater Southeast region.

Health Careers Internship Program

Medical Center

DUMC - Auxiliary Services
Auxiliary Services was founded in 1950 as a service to the patients, visitors, and personnel of Duke Hospital. Today, 500 volunteers make it possible for DUMC to provide a broad range of services designed to meet patient and visitor needs. Auxiliary Services is responsible for services ranging from the hospital gift shops to the Rock-A-Baby program.

DUMC - Duke Cancer Patient Support Program
The Duke Cancer Patient Support Program offers counseling, support groups, companionship, educational resources, and a wig and turban program to help patients and families cope with the impact of cancer on their lives. DCPSP offers continued support from the time of diagnosis, through treatment, recovery, and survival, and also through the circumstances surrounding end of life. Phone: 919-684-3651

DUMC - Child and Adolescent Life Program
The Child and Adolescent Life staff works in coordination with other staff to provide the emotional well-being and optimal development of pediatric patients and families in the hospital setting. The child and adolescent life therapists support the need of each child or adolescent for control, self-expression, a sense of mastery, peer interaction, and family involvement.

DUMC - Cultural Services
Cultural Services uses the power of the arts to give reassurance and refreshment to patients, their families, and visitors.  The program integrates the arts and humanities, bringing the healing power of the arts to people who are suffering and to those who care for them. Phone: 919-684-2007

The Travel Clinic coordinates health care for patients traveling internationally.

DUMC - Heart Center Patient Support Program
The Heart Center Support Program provides emotional support for patients who are undergoing treatment for heart disease, their spouses, other family members, and visitors. Volunteers who are former heart patients or spouses of former heart patients provide support by orienting patients to the medical center, assisting families with lodging arrangements, providing information on hospital services, and sharing their experiences with heart disease. The Center also offers classes and support groups, recreational resources, and a library.

DUMC - Employee Development Initiative
The Development program prepares Duke employees for career advancement and upward mobility for medical center employees who are interested in pursuing careers in nursing, respiratory therapy, occupational therapy and other allied health care careers.

DUMC -  Pediatric Bone Marrow Volunteers, Best Buddies Program
PBMT Best Buddies volunteers provide an essential connection to the community, offsetting feelings of isolation and loneliness a patient and family may experience. Avenues of assistance are diverse, and are continuously discovered as the volunteer and family develop a trusting relationship.

DUMC - Volunteer Services
Volunteers help in a variety of ways. Some volunteers have a great deal of patient contact, providing patients and families much needed emotional support, while others give of their time to support fund raising efforts. Volunteer Services matches volunteers with 25 different programs in DUMC.
