Programs and Services

The Duke Center for Civic Engagement - Durham Programs has information on a wide variety of opportunities for community involvement. Most positions require a weekly commitment of 1-5 hours. Volunteer training is provided by most agencies. For advice and additional information about these opportunities, contact Domonique Redmond, Assistant Director of Programs, 684-4377, or domonique.redmond@duke.edu

Thank you for helping make our Make A Difference Day a success!

Make a Difference Day, held annually on October 24th, is a nationally recognized day of service.  Sponsored by USA Weekend, the day has grown to become the nation's largest day of volunteering.

This year, Duke University and the Durham community expanded to a two-day event.  Duke students and AmeriCorp volunteers served Friday afternoon at Morehead Montessori Elementary School completing various beautification projects and at Cornwallis Rd. Park helping revitalize a Disc Golf Course.  On Saturday morning, before the Duke vs. Maryland football game, students, faculty, parents and AmeriCorp volunteers planted 'seeds of hope' and painted flower pots for children in the Duke Children's Hospital.

The Duke Center for Civic Engagement - Durham Programs wants to extend a HUGE thank you to all who made the day a success!

Duke Gardens: Thank you for your generous donations!  Without the flower pots, seeds and soil, the event could not have taken place.

To all the volunteers who came out:  THANK YOU!  We hope that you will join us in the future!
